a little about me…

Hi! I’m Lo. i am an artist who sometimes writes poems, makes films, takes photos, teaches a class, or whatever else art leads me to.

i always knew i would be an artist. first, it was a dancer, then an actor, then a writer, then a filmmaker, then a writer again. for a moment, i believed i had to choose one and master it.

growing up as a Black queer girl, i didn’t always feel there was space for me. writing opened up a world of language that gave me a home. It gave me what is possible when we call a thing a thing. when we give something language, a name, a context, we actualize it more and more. my artistic voice is the exploration and navigation of giving my Black girlhood language. we are not a monolith, so actualizing all our experiences by naming and providing context to our journeys is vital.

now, i use my expertise to help my community actualize through art. i collaborate with like-minded individuals and organizations that want to provide sustainable arts programming, literary workshops, and art-driven social policy. i also make space for my artistic journey by bringing my creations to life with Gullah Gurl Productions. i honor that my mission is unique and is for me just as much as for my community.

learning to master one, taught me that i would rather be intentionally nuanced and intersectional. for me, being a student of my craft meant not limiting myself. this perspective illuminates spaces and opportunities for me to excel at all things that bring me joy.
